GEORGIA CARE suspends distributions in Khashuri for one day but continues in other areas

TBILISI, GEORGIA (August 16, 2008) – CARE International in the Caucasus has suspended for today the distribution of the immediate humanitarian assistance to IDPs located in Khashuri due to a poor security situation and the presence of military and militia in the area. The existing situation prevents us from both assessment and distribution of emergency assistance to IDP’s in western part of the country.

 

GEORGIA CARE helps growing number of displaced people

TBILISI, GEORGIA (August 13, 2008) – The number of people in need of emergency assistance in Georgia is growing rapidly. CARE is working together with the local government and other aid organizations to provide food, water and sanitation, beds and other non food items to tens of thousands of people who fled their homes in the midst of conflict.

When one-year old Nebele Kadir arrived at CARE’s stabilisation centre in Haramaya, East Hararghe, 10 days ago, she was almost comatose. Weighing 2.5kg, she was smaller than many newborn babies. Along with the other twenty-eight inpatients of the centre, she is severely malnourished, a victim of the food crisis engulfing millions of Ethiopians as food prices soar out of reach and food stocks dwindle.

 

INDONESIA CARE gives options for clean water to tidal flood affected communities

GENEVA (June 5, 2008) – The forecasted tidal flood in Jakarta and its surrounding areas have impacted thousands of people living in the coastal areas in north of Jakarta and Tangerang. The water level before peak time reached the height of an adult waist in Dadap village, Tangerang, Banten. Despite the condition, only few from a total 1,000 household living in the area were voluntarily relocated to a safer place.
