Powerful earthquake hits Lombok in Indonesia

A 7.0 magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Lombok yesterday at 18:45 local time, killing at least 91 people and injuring hundreds. Thousands of people have been injured and thousands have been displaced. Rescuers are still trying to reach some hard-hit areas to conduct loss and damage assessments.

Inter-communal violence along the borders of Gedeo (SNNPR*) and West Guji (Oromia) zones has led to large-scale displacements, damage of properties and loss of life. As of July 14, over 1 million people are estimated to be displaced (822,187 people in Gedeo and 190,000 in West Guji zones).
