WORLD HUMANITARIAN DAY Beyonce and global aid organizations commemorate

International star Beyoncé, the United Nations and humanitarian aid organizations have launched a global campaign to shine a spotlight on humanitarian work and encourage people around the world to get involved by doing something good for others. CARE, and other NGOs are part of the campaign and join hands for World Humanitarian Day on August 19, the global day to celebrate humanity and the spirit of people helping people.

“I’ve been working for CARE since May 2007, when I first started as field coordinator and capacity building officer. Now I’m a governance advisor for a project called Tufaidike wote which means ‘win-win’ in our local language. Overall I’ve been working in humanitarian affairs for twelve years. I am 41 years old, I have four children and I was born in Lubero but raised in Rutshuru, in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo.

 

HORN OF AFRICA CAREs response to food crisis

The Horn of Africa region is experiencing the most serious food crisis in the world today. Successive seasons of failed rains, combined with increasing food prices, underdevelopment, poor governance in some places, conflict and limited humanitarian access have resulted in food insecurity, water shortages and acute malnutrition rates above emergency thresholds in the region.

“Chad is an oasis of peace and stability” was a refrain that we heard many times over from the Minister of Plan, the Minister of Agriculture, UN partner representatives and community leaders upon the recent CARE International National Director visit to Chad to observe for ourselves the current impact and implications of the Sahel drought
