One hundred days after the devastating floods in Pakistan, the approaching winter, the looming threat of water-borne disease and the floodwaters still covering parts of the country are clear indications that the “catastrophe is far from over”, says Waleed Rauf, Country Director of CARE Pakistan.

PORT-AU-PRINCE (October 22, 2010) – CARE is mobilizing staff and stockpiling supplies in response to a deadly cholera outbreak that health officials fear could spread beyond the Artibonite region of Haiti. More than 138 people have already died, and 1,526 cases have been confirmed.

Floods in Pakistan have impacted an estimated 13.8 million people - of which some six million are displaced. 1.5 million people have lost their houses. CARE is responding to the emergency by distributing shelters, mosquito nets, plastic floor mats, water purification tabs, hygiene kits and kitchen sets and other emergency supplies to families.
