A new global social and environmental standard for REDD programs

COPENHAGEN, DENMARK (December 9, 2009) – Failing to put the interests and rights of people first will undermine efforts to reduce carbon emissions from deforestation and squander the real opportunity that exists for these efforts to also contribute to poverty reduction and forest conservation goals. A new set of global standards released at the Copenhagen climate change conference today directly tackles this concern.

Climate change joint study identifies humanitarian hotspots and warns of dire consequences

GENEVA & NAIROBI (August 22, 2008) – India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Indonesia are among the pivotal states identified as climate change “hotspots”-- countries particularly vulnerable to the increase in extreme drought, flooding, and cyclones expected in the coming decades—according to a new report commissioned by humanitarian relief agency CARE International and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
