The war in Sudan which entered its ninth month last week continues to cause extreme suffering for millions across the country and in neighboring states, with women and children experiencing the conflict’s impacts most acutely.

With less than 30% of health facilities in the country operational, and disease outbreaks on the rise, many people continue to be exposed to preventable diseases with deadly outcomes.

Ahead of World Humanitarian Day on August 19th, South Sudan continues to be the deadliest place for humanitarian aid workers, followed by Sudan, Somalia, and Ukraine.

Principals of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) plead to all parties to the conflict end the violence, urge the international community to increase support and renew their support to the people of Sudan.

The crisis, which began on April 15, has led to widespread violence resulting in death, destruction, and displacement. More than 2.4 million people have been displaced within Sudan, and more than 730,000 have fled to neighboring countries.

In today's pledging conference at the UN, donors have only met half of what is needed to provide urgent aid.

In advance of the Sudan pledging conference that will be held on Monday 19th June, CARE International asks for the United Nations appeal to be fully funded, to help save the lives of millions of vulnerable people affected by the ongoing conflict. 

Nearly 90,000 people have crossed over from Sudan to South Sudan as the conflict approaches its second month. 53% of these are women and girls who are arriving with nothing more than the clothes on their backs.

With the conflict in Sudan in its fifth week, CARE is deeply concerned about the impact the violence has had on hundreds of thousands of Sudanese people, especially women, and children, forced to flee their homes amid the violence.
