Statement by David Gazashvili, CARE Philippines Country Director:
Manila, 26 July, 2023 - "We are deeply concerned by the impact of Typhoon Doksuri that hit the Philippines today. This powerful tropical cyclone has unleashed flash floods, landslides, and widespread destruction, displacing over 44,000 families – more than 180,000 people – according to The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). These numbers are expected to go up in the coming days.
Typhoon Doksuri significantly affected Cagayan, Ilocos, and Cordillera Autonomous Regions, where CARE and three local partners operate. We are working closely with the government and our partners to deploy our emergency response team to conduct need assessments and provide much-needed support to the people affected by the typhoon. Our team remains alert as our priority is to ensure that the population is safe from harm.”
