CARE International has announced Susana Grau Batlle as its new Country Director in Nigeria.
Susana joins CARE from Counterpart International, where she served as the Director of Global Programs providing strategic leadership to their civil society global portfolio on technology and innovation.
Susana’s leadership appointment has been the result of a rigorous and comprehensive selection process. She has over 18 years of progressive experience in international development and humanitarian contexts, leading initiatives in dynamic work environments worldwide.
Commenting on her appointment she said: “I am thrilled to be joining the CARE world - a world-leading agency in humanitarian response and development. It is an incredibly exciting time to join the CARE Nigeria team, lead on the next stage of its strategy, and build on its excellent foundations.
“I have seen first-hand the extraordinary work; and am honoured to lead on country office operations and support the preparation to a longer-term model of CARE presence in Nigeria,” Susana said.
Welcoming the new appointment, Claudine Mensah Awute, the Regional Director for CARE International West Africa, said: “We are delighted that Susana is joining as our new Country Director for Nigeria. She brings with her considerable experience and technical expertise. We are confident that she will take the Nigeria office from strength to strength as we enter a new era.”
In previous roles, Susana has served in conflict, post-conflict and fragile states on large-scale assignments in many areas, including international economic development; global women’s affairs and political inclusion for women leaders.
Prior to joining CARE, Susana also worked with USAID in Afghanistan, UNICEF, UNDP, and The World Bank Group. She also has experience with a number of grassroots organizations worldwide, combining inclusive leadership and senior management with field-based experience, research and subject matter technical expertise.
